U.S. open water swimmer Francis 'Fran' Crippen, a world championship bronze medalist, died during a Marathon Swimming World Cup 10km event in the United Arab Emirates on Saturday, world governing body FINA said.

Extreme swimmer Diana Nyad has temporarily called off her marathon Cuba-to-Key West swim, citing bad weather and slow progress on government permissions. The swim would break the world record for distance swims without a shark cage, which Nyad holds.

11.17.10 - Ironman World Championship in Clearwater draws more than 1,500 participants

Starting and finishing at Pier 60 on Clearwater Beach, Michael Raelert of Germany traversed the 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run in 3:41:19 to win. England's Jodie Swallow was the women's champion in 4:06:28.


10.08.10 - WTC Launches New Global Event Series

Oct. 5, 2010 (Tampa, Fla.) – Today, World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), best known for its worldwide Ironman and Ironman 70.3 races, announces the launch of a new global event series titled 5150. All events within the 5150 Triathlon Series include a 1.5K swim, 40K bike and 10K run. Event information, including online registration details, will be available in the coming weeks on Starting in 2011, the St. Anthony's Triathlon will become part of this global event series.

World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), owners of the Ironman series of events, confirmed that the year-ending 70.3 race, heretofore domiciled in Clearwater, Florida, will move to Henderson, a Las Vegas suburb.
